About Ferula persica
Sagapenum is a resin derived from a plant of the Umbelliferae family. It is a perennial plant, 1 to 2 meters high, with a thick cylindrical stem and broad, toothed leaves with deep incisions that divide the leaf into pieces with sharp divisions.
This plant is native to Iran and has been identified in the slopes of Alborz and mountainous areas of northern Iran and exists in Lorestan and Chaharmahal mountains. To extract the resin, the stem of the plant is split near the leaf, the sap is taken out and hardened in the presence of air. The external color of this resin is red or yellow and the inside is white, it smells like garlic or Asafoetida and it tastes a little sour and bitter.
